Foil Wrapped Apple Brown Betty
on the Big Green Egg
Ingredients
- 4 Apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup crushed cookie crumbs, preferably graham crackers
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Directions:
- Prepare a low fire in the EGG, Stabilizing at 250 degrees.
- If you use a hot fire the apples will scorch and their flavor will be bitter.
- Combine the apples, cookie crumbs, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon in a bowl and mix well. Divide the mixture between 2 large pieces of heavy- duty aluminum foil and seal the packets so that no liquid or steam will escape.
- Grill the packets, turning once, until the apples are soft, about 20 minutes.
- Open the packets very carefully and serve warm.
NOTE: To make the aluminum foil packets you will need to cut the foil large enough to hold 1 or 2 servings. Place the apple brown betty in the center. Bring the long sides of the foil together, covering the mixture, and fold the edges over about 3 times to seal them. Then fold the short ends over about 3 times. This should form a tightly sealed packet.
