Cooking Pizza on the Grill with Papa Murphy's
on the Big Green Egg
Lately, we have gotten a lot of calls about cooking pizza. Baking a pizza on the grill isn't that hard to do as long as you follow a few simple guidelines. The best results usually come from freshly made pizza like a Papa Murphy's or a home-made one.
Directions:
- The first step is to light the grill and stabilize it at 425 degrees.
- The next step is to drop in the cooking grid with a grid extender attached to it. The grid extender puts the pizza stone about 4 inches up off the cooking grid and makes it a whole lot easier to get the pizza off the grill when it's finished.
- Then you will want to sprinkle a little corn meal onto a Big Green Egg Pizza Stone and place the pizza on the stone cardboard backing and all.(NOTE: You can use another type of pizza stone for this, but make sure to pre-heat the stone or you will most likely break it!)
- Leave the pizza on the backing for 8 to 10 minutes so the crust will become firm enough to slide the pizza onto the stone.
- After that is done, it is just a matter of baking the pizza until it is a nice golden brown color.
- Total cooking time is usually 18 to 22 minutes.*
The most common mistake is to adjust the dampeners or heat settings on the grill after the pizza stone is placed inside. It is normal to see a registered drop in temperature on the temp gauge after you place food in the grill. Leave the dampeners and heat controls where they were before you put the pizza and stone on the grill. The heat will come up gradually as the stone warms up. Another thing to remember is cooking another pizza after the first will take a lot less time because the stone will be hot. If you have any questions, please call us....advice is always Free
